The film in question? One of the most beloved Bollywood movies of all time. Though Kajol didn’t name the character directly, fans quickly pieced together that she was referring to a major role in a 2009 blockbuster, eventually played by another A-list actress.
Industry insiders believe the film was Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots, where Kareena Kapoor Khan played the leading lady. The role of Pia, Rancho’s love interest and daughter of the strict college director, was central to the story.
When asked why she turned it down, Kajol gave a simple but firm answer:
“Sometimes it’s not the right time, or not the right film for you. I knew it instantly.”
